Sasha Seymore ‘15
Sasha Seymore graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2015, with a double-major in Global Studies and Economics and a minor in Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Sasha was a member of the UNC men’s basketball program, served as the 2015 Senior Class President, and led the Dozen Doughnut Dash, a charity race benefitting the UNC Lineberger Cancer Center. However, it was an experience his freshman year that led to Sasha’s passion for global issues.
While playing on the club soccer team, Sasha (who is Christian) found his two best friends, who were Jewish and Muslim, respectively, and they embarked on Kicking Across Carolina, a 450-mile trek across the state of North Carolina to raise money for organizations that used sports for religious tolerance in the Middle East. According to Sasha, “Kicking Across Carolina opened my eyes up to the broader world and the tremendous impact that sports could have in solving global problems”
Supported by the Morehead-Cain scholarship, Sasha worked as an English teacher and basketball coach in Rio de Janeiro and for an NGO helping children with clubfoot in South Africa and Botswana. He was selected as the head of all student trip leaders for the Kenan-Flagler Business School’s global immersions, through which he studied in South Africa, China, and Taiwan.
Sasha wrote his senior thesis through the Global Studies department, focusing on the impact of non-profits that use sports as a method of conflict resolution with a specific focus on Israel/Palestine.
“The Global Studies department provided me with a platform to pursue my interests in conflict resolution and sports, allowing me to structure my studies to focus on where I was most passionate. I’m very thankful that I found the Global Studies program, as the community of mentoring professors, globally minded students, and abundance of opportunities helped define a large part of my time in Chapel Hill”
After graduating from UNC, Sasha received a George J. Mitchell scholarship to study Conflict Transformation and Social Justice at Queen’s University Belfast, where he studied the legacy impact of post-conflict NGOs working in shared education and played for the Belfast Star Basketball Club, a member of the All-Irish Premier League (the highest level of professional basketball in Ireland).
Sasha currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and works as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company. His current plans are to head to the Stanford Graduate School of Business to pursue his MBA this upcoming fall, with an ultimate goal of using his business experience and passion for sports and global issues for public services.
