Mattie Webb

Mattie Webb (MA ’16) is currently a PhD student in the Department of History at University of California, Santa Barbara. She was a recipient of a Foreign Language & Area Studies fellowship for academic year 2015-2016 for Turkish language study.

Mattie represented the Curriculum in Global Studies at the 2016 King’s College London Research Collaboration as well as presenting her thesis (entitled “Economic Sanctions, Target State Pressure, & the Demise of Apartheid”) at the 2016 UNC Spring Academic Research Conference. Additionally, Mattie was also a part of the UNC cross country and track teams that won the ACC championship in 2015.

Of her time in the Global Studies MA program, Mattie offered:

“My time with the Global Studies MA program was transformative. In my two years there I grew as a scholar, learned the value of analyzing global events from multiple angles, and built lasting relationships with professors, students and staff across the entire university. The Global Studies program allowed me to craft original research and use resources from many departments and provided support throughout the entire process.”
