‘Women of Maidan’ (2016): Film Screening and Panel Discussion

October 25, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

A film screening of Women of Maidan (2016) and a conversation with the filmmaker Olha Onyshko will take place on October 25 in Toy Lounge of Dey Hall at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). Trevor Erlacher, teaching assistant professor in the Department of History at UNC, and Georgiy Kasianov, visiting Fulbright Scholar at UNC, will join Onyshko in a panel discussion moderated by Donna Goldstein, a member of the Ukrainian Association of North Carolina.

The documentary Women of Maidan takes viewers behind the scenes of one of the most riveting news stories to come out of Eastern Europe in recent years: Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity. Peaceful protest that began at Kiev’s central square in November 2013 culminated in the ouster of the country’s president in February 2014, after weeks of violent and fatal clashes between police forces and the protesters, many of whom were students and women. The film looks specifically at the role women played in removing a corrupt political system and defining a new future for Ukraine.

This event is free and open to the public.

Co-presented by the Ukrainian Association of North Carolina, the UNC Center for Slavic, Eurasian and East European Studies, and Global Relations at UNC.
