Transformative Pedagogy in Times of Crisis

Self-Recovery & Transformational Pedagogy:

Honoring bell hooks

Friday March 4th, 12-1:30/2pm*

Zoom*

The meeting will be held in honor of bell hooks one of, if not the, most important contributors to what we are calling Transformative Pedagogy, and life-changing teacher for many of us. She passed away December 15, leaving an incredible mark on the world, and in many of our hearts– and many of us our still mourning the profound loss. If you were familiar with her work, or if she influenced you in any way there will be a space to share. We will of course also spend some time doing practice, checking in on classes and offering some new practices/reflections to work with.

For those interested, we are also offering some of her work as a jumping off point and will be centering her important, and perhaps less talked about, notion of Self Recovery and Transformational Pedagogy (from Sisters of the Yam). (Totally optional pre-readings are available on our Sakai site, if you don’t have access, email josephri@live.unc.edu, or osterwei@email.unc.edu and we can add you!)

*For those able to stay past 1:30 we will have space for a short discussion about plans for the future of the seminar based on participants desires/and resources!

**RSVP to receive Zoom link. **
