Towards a Liberatory Global: Writing Workshop

The Carolina Seminars event series returns for a second year this fall with a compelling lineup including roundtable discussions, guest lectures, and an in-depth writing workshop.

The theme of this year’s series will be “Towards a Liberatory Global: Building anti-racist, feminist, and decolonial understandings for the global.” Events will explore decolonial theories and methods in different parts of the world.

Join on November 28, 11:15am-12:30pm for a writing workshop led by celebrated author Dr. Rebecca May Johnson.


Dr. Rebecca May Johnson has published essays, reviews and nonfiction with Granta, the Times Literary Supplement and Daunt Books Publishing, among others, and is an editor at food publication Vittles. She earned a PhD in Contemporary Literature from UCL in 2016. In December 2020, Johnson was awarded a Society of Authors grant to support the writing of Small Fires, her first book.

Johnson has since been awarded a John R. Murray Creative Writing Residency at the British School in Rome and nominated for an Arts Foundation Environmental Writing Fellowship by Granta. Her writing has appeared in Granta, The Photographer’s Gallery, The Happy Reader, Luncheon, Tribune, The Plant, Times Literary Supplement, The Financial Times, The Guardian, Grub Zine, and others.

Dinner Document, Johnson’s blog and recipe diary, ran from 2011-2021 before moving to Substack.
