Spacewalker (Время первых)Director: Dmitry Kiselyov • Year: 2017In Russian with English subtitles • 140 minutes

What does post-Soviet Russia make of the astonishing but troubled legacy of the USSR’s space exploration program? How does it celebrate it, how does it use it? The Russian Flagship Program cordially invites you to watch and discuss Vremya pervykh (Eng.: The Age of Pioneers or Spacewalk or The Spacewalker; Dmitri Kiselyov, dir., Russia, 2017). The Kremlin-bankrolled and promoted movie tells the story of Alexei Leonov (1934-2019), the first human to go on a spacewalk. This screening will kick off our semester-long activities focused on the Space Race including a live event with a Russian cosmonaut and a national game show. To be introduced with a subsequent discussion moderated by Dr. Stanislav Shvabrin. In Russian with English subtitles.
