MA Lunch & Learn: UNC-Duke Consortium in Latin American and Caribbean Studies Working Group in 2018-2019, “Im/migration, Illegality, and Citizenship in the Americas.”
October 3, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Barbara Sostaita, Religious Studies PhD student, will join us to discuss this new UNC-Duke working group for the 2018-2019 academic year. This working group will provide graduate students and faculty with an intellectual community at UNC to support their research on im/migration, illegality, belonging, and citizenship in the contemporary Americas. It will create a space focused on graduate student and faculty co-learning and sharing around our mutual research interests and political commitments related to im/migration and illegality in distinct national contexts throughout the Americas. Through workshops, public lectures, and community roundtables, the group collaborators seek to deepen our analysis of the logics and mechanics that govern transnational mobility and immobility, better understand how these shape the experiences of im/migrant communities in the Americas, and consider how engaged scholarship might play a bigger role in shaping the policy context that governs these.
