Bart Ehrman, “Jesus Before the Gospels: How the Earliest Christians Remembered, Changed and Invented Their Stories of the Savior”
March 9, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
FreeBart Ehrman, one of the most renowned Bible scholars in the world today and the James A. Gray Distinguished Professor of Religious Studies here at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will be at Bull’s Head Bookshop on Wednesday, March 9 at 3 p.m. to share from his new book Jesus Before the Gospels: How the Earliest Christians Remembered, Changed and Invented Their Stories of the Savior.
Throughout much of human history, the most important stories were passed down orally—including the stories about Jesus before they became written down in the Gospels. In this fascinating and deeply researched work, Erhman investigates the role oral history has played in the New Testament—how the telling of these stories not only spread Jesus’ message but helped shape it.
Jesus Before the Gospels is a compelling narrative that not only demonstrates Ehrman’s deep knowledge and meticulous scholarship, but also challenges the historical accuracy of the Gospels and what they tell us about the historical Jesus, the way we read and think about these sacred texts and how we view history.
Bull’s Head Bookshop is located in the UNC Student Stores on the campus of UNC. All events at Bull’s Head are free and open to the public. Call 919.962.5060 for more details or visit the Facebook event page.
