The Art of Emergency: Aesthetics and Aid in African Crises

This will be an interdisciplinary conference charting art, humanitarianism and their interactions in conflict zones across the African continent. It will take place at the Institute for the Arts and Humanities on at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This event is free and open to the public.

Organizer Chérie Rivers Ndaliko is partnering with a fellow at the Mahindra Humanities Center at Harvard University, Samuel M. Anderson, to bring together an interdisciplinary mix of scholars, artists, community organizers and students to examine the relationship between creativity and humanitarian aid in conflict regions. The conference is designed to be interactive and create discussions around the best practices for social justice work.
