A Conversation with Don Baer ‘76

Don Baer, a 1976 Phi Beta Kappa UNC graduate, is Chairman of the global strategic communications firm Burson Cohn & Wolfe. He was Worldwide Chair and CEO of its predecessor firm, Burson-Marsteller. Baer also served as Senior Executive Vice President for Strategy and Development at Discovery Communications. Baer was an Assistant to President Bill Clinton, serving as White House Communications Director, Chief Speechwriter and Director of Speechwriting and Research. Prior to the White House, Baer was a journalist at U.S. News & World Report and American Lawyer and a lawyer at a private firm. Baer earned a Master’s from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a J.D. from the University of Virginia.
