Professor Jed Simmons: Chiron Award Lecture

April 25, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Speakers at Carolina is excited to announce E-Minor Professor Jed Simmons as the 2016 Chiron Award Recipient! On Monday, April 25 at 5:30pm in Gerrard Hall, Professor Simmons will deliver the lecture he “has always wanted to give,” and we hope to see you there!

Professor Simmons has a laundry list of accomplishments and over 30 years of experience in the media and broadcasting industries. To start things off, ever heard of Cartoon Network? Ever caught up on your news with a quick YouTube video on the way to class? Ever taken an E-Minor class? If you answered yes to any of these, maybe you’ve already heard of this entrepreneur in residence who, with only two semesters at UNC, has gained immense admiration among students. Or perhaps you haven’t and are now itching to learn more. Maybe you’re a current or past student who can affirm why he is our 2016 Chiron Award Recipient. Either way, you have the opportunity to hear him speak on April 25.

The Chiron Award and Lecture is organized by Speakers at Carolina, a special project in the Executive Branch of Student Government, and is completely student-nominated, student-chosen, and student-led. The professor who receives the Chiron Award is asked to give the lecture he “has always wanted to give,” based on Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture. Past recipients include Professor Petrenka of the Economics department, Professor Carrillo of the Education department, and Professor Hogan of the Chemistry department.
