Please join Carolina China Network and RadAsian’s on March 8, International Women’s Day, from 6-7pm in Carol room 111.

While it is commonly known that in China there is a gender imbalance (with about 118 boys for every 100 girls), what is less commonly known is what the quality of life for women in China is really like. What are the main issues in the women’s rights movement in China? How has gender equality changed over time (especially from the time of the cultural revolution and within the current administration)? As China urbanizes how are gender roles shifting?

The event will progress roughly as follows:

The first 10 minutes of the event will provide a broad overview and context to the progress and ongoing challenges for women’s equality in China. Then panelists Dr. Robin Visser and Dr. Michelle King will each speak to a topic related to her respective expertise for 15-20 minutes. The panel will then be open for questions.
