The Keynote Lecture of the Department of African, African American, and Diaspora Studies’ Annual Student Research Conference will be presented by Dr. Adriane Lentz-Smith. Dr. Lentz-Smith is an Associate Professor of History, African & African-American Studies, and Women’s Studies at Duke University and the author of Freedom Struggles: African Americans and World War I (Harvard University Press, 2009). A scholar of the twentieth-century black freedom struggle, she is currently writing a book on violence in the late civil rights era.
